Story Tags

Explore Portal Avalon’s dark fiction by theme — from haunting ghost stories to forbidden desire, dark psychology, and workplace manipulation.

Tags are how the Portal Avalon library is actually read. The four categories — Mystical, Betrayal, Psychology, Desire — sort every story into a single realm, but most readers do not approach fiction realm-first. They approach it texture-first. They want a ghost story tonight, or something on long-running marital concealment, or workplace fiction that takes the workplace seriously. The tag system is built for that kind of search: a single story will frequently appear in three or four tag pages at once, each reframing it for a different reading question.

The eleven active tags below cluster into three rough groups. The atmospheric and supernatural — ghost, supernatural, horror — for readers who want dread, ambiguity, and the uncanny. The psychological — manipulation, gaslighting, dark psychology — for readers who want the slow cruelty of one mind working on another. And the relational — betrayal, infidelity, forbidden desire, secrets, workplace — for readers interested in the architecture of trust, ambition, and adult desire as it actually behaves in modern life.

The taxonomy is deliberately small. A new tag is only added when at least three existing stories warrant the grouping and the topic is not already covered by an existing tag. The intent is curation, not exhaustive indexing; we would rather a tag page feel like an editor’s selection than a database export.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a category and a tag?

Categories are exclusive: every story belongs to exactly one of the four realms. Tags are non-exclusive: a story might carry three or four tags simultaneously. Tags let readers cross category boundaries and find the texture they actually want.

How many tags does Portal Avalon use?

Eleven active tags currently. The taxonomy is intentionally tight; we would rather add fewer tags more deliberately than dilute the system.

Can a story have more than one tag?

Yes, and most do. A workplace gaslighting story will appear under workplace, gaslighting, dark psychology, and manipulation simultaneously.

Are new tags added regularly?

Rarely. A new tag is only added when at least three existing stories warrant the grouping and the topic is not already covered by an existing tag.
