V. Ashton is the founding author and editor of Portal Avalon, a sanctuary for dark literary fiction, mythology, and psychological horror. Writing under a pen name, Ashton brings a background in literary criticism and cultural history to every essay and story on the portal.
The work explores the intersection of myth, psychology, and desire — particularly the ways in which ancient symbolic frameworks (alchemy, Celtic otherworld traditions, Jungian shadow theory) map onto contemporary interior experience. Every essay published on Portal Avalon is researched and written to the standards of literary journalism, with a commitment to E-E-A-T: genuine expertise, direct experience with the material, trustworthy sourcing, and authorial accountability.
Ashton also serves as the primary lore author for the Avalon browser RPG, which was built on the same mythological substrate as the portal's fiction library. The four Realms of Avalon — Mystical Sanctum, Court of Shadows, Labyrinth of Minds, and the Forbidden Garden — each correspond to a content category on the portal, and the lore is designed to be read independently or as a companion to the fiction.
Across more than sixteen stories on Portal Avalon, Ashton's recurring concerns are the architecture of betrayal, the slow erosion of self under coercive pressure, and the way a Gothic house, a corner office, or a midnight masquerade can each become the same kind of trap. The byline is a pen name — a chosen mask in keeping with the portal's commitment to the persona as a literary instrument — and the work behind it is the product of a single editorial sensibility holding the whole library to one standard: every piece must earn its darkness, and every ending must reveal that the mechanism was visible all along.
