Overview
Misty Village still mourns its dead. Sir Aldric, once a knight of the Order of the Veil and now a half-broken man, recognises the look of someone the Portal has chosen. He believes the source of The Forgetting in Mystical Sanctum lies inside the Forgotten Fortress, where his order fell — a cursed relic buried in its deepest chamber.
To get there, you must cross the Whispering Glade, where the trees repeat overheard secrets back at travellers, and survive the Marsh of Echoes, a stretch of poisoned water haunted by Wraiths shaped like the people who drowned in it. Only after both will you reach the broken gates, where two Cursed Knights still stand guard centuries after their oaths failed them.
Echoes of the Forgotten is the bridge quest of Phase 1. It teaches you to manage potions, choose your battles, and read the land. Finish it well, and the Fortress itself opens for MQ-3 — The Whispering Shade.
Objectives
- Speak with Sir Aldric in Misty Village.
- Cross the Whispering Glade.
- Survive the Marsh of Echoes.
- Reach the Forgotten Fortress.
- Defeat the Fortress Gate Guardians (0/2).
Walkthrough
Step 1 — Sir Aldric's Story
Aldric stands by the ruined chapel in Misty Village. Listen to his full account: the Order of the Veil, the relic, the night the Fortress fell. A high Charisma reply unlocks his banner as a usable item (+2 defence in his presence).
Step 2 — Cross the Whispering Glade
Encounter chance: 45%. Shadow Beasts (Lv. 2–5) are the most common opponent. They drop Shadow Essence, useful for crafting later. Bring 3 Health Potions minimum.
Step 3 — Survive the Marsh of Echoes
Encounter chance: 55%. Marsh Wraiths (Lv. 4–6) deal mental damage; Willpower reduces it. A hidden Codex Page lies in the easternmost tile — useful for Lost Pages.
Step 4 — Reach the Fortress
Crossing the Marsh deposits you at the Fortress causeway. Travel one tile north to trigger the gate-arrival cutscene and the Codex entry.
Step 5 — The Gate Guardians
Two Cursed Knights flank the broken portcullis. Each: 90 HP, 12–18 damage. Strategy: focus one down first. The Fortress Key is auto-added to your inventory on victory.
Rewards
| Reward | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Experience | 250 XP | Plus 30–60 XP from encounters |
| Avalon Coin | 60 | Restock potions before MQ-3 |
| Fortress Key | x1 | Quest item — cannot be sold |
| Codex Entry | Forgotten Fortress | Adds map markers |
Tips
- Stack Spirit Tonics before the Marsh — mental damage drains MP faster than HP.
- Pick up SQ-1 and SQ Shadow Beast Hunt before starting MQ-2; the same monsters count for both.
- Save before the Gate Guardians. Manual save (S) creates a rollback point if you wipe.
- Pause for the hidden Codex Page in the easternmost Marsh tile — it counts toward Lost Pages.

Frequently Asked Questions
What level should I be for Echoes of the Forgotten?
Level 3 minimum. Level 4 is safer because the Gate Guardians hit hard. Complete The Herbalist's Request and The Shadow Beast Hunt first to gain XP.
Can I skip the Marsh of Echoes?
No. The Marsh is the only route from the Whispering Glade to the Fortress. Stock Spirit Tonics to manage MP between encounters.
How tough are the Gate Guardians?
Each Cursed Knight has 90 HP and hits for 12–18 damage. Open with a stun or Insight-gated dialogue to dispel one before the fight.
What does the Fortress Key unlock?
The main gates in The Whispering Shade (MQ-3). It is a quest item and cannot be sold or dropped.
