Avalon NPCs
Every character who populates the cursed island — mentors, merchants, informants, and bosses. Know who to trust and who to fear.
✨ Realm I — Mystical Sanctum
Vara the Seer
Quest Giver · Mentor · Portal Clearing
The eldest of the three Seers, keeper of the Prophecy of Forgetting. She waits at the broken portal and sends every new arrival on the same quest — recover the four Memoria Stones before the Forgetting erases the island's history entirely.
| Location | Portal Clearing (Realm I) |
|---|---|
| Class bonus | +20% XP for Seer class on her quests |
| Key dialogue | Grants Seeker's Codex at first meeting |
| Sells | Nothing (quest-only NPC) |
Talk to Vara before leaving Portal Clearing. Missing her first dialogue skips the Codex reward and locks you out of the earliest XP bonus.
Old Maren
Herbalist · Quest Giver · Misty Village
The village herbalist, suspicious of strangers and generous with knowledge if you earn her trust. Her quest line — collecting Shadow Herbs from Whispering Marsh — is the best early source of consumable potions and Reputation with the village faction.
| Location | Misty Village (Realm I) |
|---|---|
| Sells | Healing Salve ×3 (12 AC), Antidote (8 AC), Shadow Herb Bundle (15 AC) |
| Reputation gate | Potions stock increases at Friendly (+1) and Allied (+2) |
| Quest reward | 3× Healing Salve + 25 XP + 15 Reputation |
Always complete Maren's herb quest before entering the Ruined Fortress. The salves she rewards are better value than anything Merchant Thorn sells at that stage.
Merchant Thorn
General Merchant · Misty Village
The only general-goods trader in Realm I. Prices are fair but not cheap. Rogue and Mentalist classes receive a 10% discount from the first conversation. Sells common supplies, weapons, and accessories found nowhere else in the early game.
| Location | Misty Village (Realm I) |
|---|---|
| Stock | Iron Dagger (45 AC), Leather Vest (60 AC), Rope Torch (5 AC), Mana Vial (18 AC) |
| Sells back | Accepts loot at 40% of base value |
| Class discount | Rogue & Mentalist: −10% on all purchases |
Sell all duplicate loot to Thorn before leaving Realm I. Gold is scarce in Realm II and his buy-back rate is the best in the game until The Nexus Market unlocks.
Sir Aldric
Ghost Knight · Lore NPC · Ruined Fortress
The spirit of a fallen knight of the Veil Order, bound to the Ruined Fortress by an oath he never completed. Speaks in riddles about the Forgetting, but each cryptic statement unlocks a Codex entry worth Knowledge Crystals. Required for the main quest artifact retrieval.
| Location | Ruined Fortress, Throne Hall (Realm I) |
|---|---|
| Unlocks | 5 Codex entries + access to the lower vault |
| Required | Main quest: The Lost Relic |
| Weakness | Cannot be harmed — dialogue only |
Exhaust all four dialogue branches with Sir Aldric. Each branch is a separate Codex unlock worth 10–20 KC. Missing them requires a new playthrough to complete the Codex 100%.
⌫ Realm II — Court of Shadows
Lady Morvaine
Faction Leader · Main Quest · Grand Hall
Matriarch of House Morvaine and the de facto power behind the Court after the old Magistrate's fall. Her history is explored in depth in the linked portal story. Whether she becomes an ally or an obstacle depends entirely on your Reputation with the Court faction and your dialogue choices.
| Location | Grand Hall (Realm II, requires 55% Realm progress) |
|---|---|
| Reputation gate | Ally route: Neutral or higher. Enemy route: always available |
| Related reading | The Perfect Marriage → |
| Class bonus | Rogue: +1 extra dialogue branch (Eavesdrop skill) |
Read The Perfect Marriage before speaking to Lady Morvaine. It unlocks a hidden dialogue option that shifts her disposition to Friendly and opens the ally route without a Reputation grind.
The Shadow Broker
Black Market Merchant · Market of Whispers
A hooded figure at a stall that changes position each visit. Sells items that are either unavailable or heavily restricted through normal channels: Poison Vials, Disguise Kits, Forged Documents. Prices are 40–60% above market rate.
| Location | Market of Whispers (Realm II, unlocked at any progress) |
|---|---|
| Stock | Poison Vial (55 AC), Disguise Kit (80 AC), Forged Document (120 AC), Whisper Stone (40 AC) |
| Class discount | Rogue: −20% (Shadow Step passive) |
| Note | Forged Document required for the Accord Seal questline |
The Informant
Passive Ability NPC · East Wing Library
Posing as a scholar, this NPC sells patrol schedules and enemy patrol routes for the Court's guards. Purchasing the map reduces random encounter probability in Realm II by 30% for the remainder of the session.
| Location | East Wing Library (Realm II) |
|---|---|
| Service cost | Patrol map: 35 AC |
| Effect | −30% random encounters in Realm II (session-scoped) |
🧠 Realm III — Labyrinth of Minds
The Analyst
Main Quest Guide · Mentalist Mentor · The Threshold
Stationed at the Labyrinth's entrance, The Analyst acts as both main quest dispatcher and class tutor for Mentalist characters, granting the Deep Scan ability at the first meeting. She has been trying to reach The Architect since the Forgetting began — and she needs you to succeed where she cannot.
| Location | The Threshold (Realm III entry) |
|---|---|
| Class bonus | Mentalist: grants Deep Scan (reveals hidden NPC stats in dialogue) |
| Related reading | The Therapist's Notes → |
Reading The Therapist's Notes before arriving gives you 2 additional dialogue options with The Analyst and unlocks the Codex entry "The Sanctum of Reason" immediately.
The Mirror Keeper
Specialist Merchant · Gallery of Reflections
Sells Clarity-type items, which are exclusive to Realm III and essential for breaking illusion effects that enemies in the Labyrinth apply. The Clarity Lens (equippable accessory) permanently reduces illusion damage by 25%.
| Location | Gallery of Reflections (Realm III) |
|---|---|
| Stock | Clarity Potion (35 AC), Clarity Lens (180 AC, equip), Mind Shard (22 AC), Dream Dust (18 AC) |
The Clarity Lens is the single best investment in Realm III. Buy it from Mirror Keeper as soon as you have 180 AC — it cuts the boss's Disoriented debuff effectiveness in half.
The Dreamer
Map Guide · Encounter Reducer · Dream Quarter
A wanderer trapped between waking and dreaming, The Dreamer can sketch the hidden routes of the Labyrinth — but only if you bring Dream Dust. Offering 3× Dream Dust reduces random encounters in Realm III by 40% and marks hidden doors on the exploration map.
| Location | Dream Quarter (Realm III) |
|---|---|
| Requires | 3× Dream Dust (buy from Mirror Keeper or loot from Mind Parasites) |
| Reward | −40% encounters, hidden doors revealed |

Codex Keeper · Cross-Realm · Appears in All Realms
An ageless figure in grey robes who appears in every Realm near major lore sites. Speaking to the Chronicler triggers a Codex review UI where you can revisit all unlocked lore entries. No quests, no items — purely a knowledge companion.

|---|---|
| Function | Opens Codex from anywhere; awards 5 KC per new entry reviewed |
